Velvet Heartleaf Philodendron

Soft as suede and twice as handsome. Micans trails or climbs with heart-shaped leaves that look olive-green in some light and bronze-copper in another. New growth comes in with a warm blush; the undersides stay a rich, velvety burgundy. It is the philodendron people reach for when they want something that looks expensive without acting fussy.

Easy indoor vine. Give it a moss pole and it climbs; leave it in a hanging basket and it drapes. Bright, indirect light keeps the velvet looking rich. Water when the top inch of mix is dry. Average home humidity is fine; it will thank you for more.

Light: Bright indirect. A little morning sun is fine. Too little light and the leaves stay small and dull.
Water: Let the top of the soil dry, then water thoroughly. Do not leave it sitting in a saucer.
Soil: Chunky aroid mix.
Pet note: Toxic if chewed.  Keep up and away from naughty pets.
