Begonia Black Velvet

A striking rhizomatous begonia with dark, velvety foliage that exudes both elegance and mystery. Its leaves have serrated edges that grow to be maple-shaped over time. Leaves sit atop hairy stems, and are studded with wisps of fine, eyelash-like hairs, consistent with its common name, the “eyelash begonia”. ‘Black Velvet’ prefers a gentle touch and uniform conditions. To keep your ‘Black Velvet’ thriving, position it in a spot with indirect light, consistent moisture, steady temperatures, and good air circulation.

Height/Habit: 8-14" Upright

Water Requirements: Begonias prefer moist, but not soggy soil. Be sure to water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Ensure good drainage

Soil Requirements: use an all-purpose potting mix, with orchid bark and perlite added to ensure good drainage. 

Tips and Tricks:  

• If your Begonia drops its leaves, don't give up! These plants grow from rhizomes and can sprout new leaves under the right conditions. They like very consistent conditions, overall, when it comes to watering, temperature, and light, and they need to have good drainage. Avoid placing your begonia in a drafty spot.
