2-year root section Victoria rhubarb (Rheum rhabarbarum 'Victoria') is a classic, heirloom perennial supplied as a dormant bare root root section, ready for easy planting. This established 2-year-old stock features a robust, fleshy crown with multiple buds and a thick, fibrous root system—ideal for quick establishment in rich, well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 5.5-7.0).
The world's most popular rhubarb variety since the 1800s, Victoria is prized for its prolific yields of large, thick, juicy stalks that are green with a rosy-red blush or speckling (more intense at the base, fading upward), tender, low-string, and noticeably sweeter/milder than many others—delivering excellent tart-sweet flavor perfect for pies, sauces, jams, crumbles, or fresh compotes (use stalks only; leaves are toxic).
Self-fertile and trouble-free, plant this year in full sun (6+ hours), spacing 3-4 feet apart with the crown buds 1-2 inches below soil surface—provide rich organic matter and consistent moisture. It will settle in vigorously, often allowing light harvest the second year (full harvest by year 3), with abundant, reliable production for 10-15+ years.
