The African mask on a smaller frame. Arrow-shaped leaves, dark green and glossy, with thick white-to-lime veins that look drawn on. Wavy edges. It stays compact compared with the big alocasias, which is why it sells from a 4–6" pot.

Bright, indirect light. Chunky mix. Water when the top is dry—never cold and wet. Polly likes warmth. If the room gets chilly and the pot stays damp, it may drop leaves and rest. That is not always a dead plant; keep it barely moist and wait for spring.

Light: Bright indirect. No harsh sun on the dark leaves.
Water: Dry down slightly, then water. Don’t leave it in a saucer.
Soil: Chunky aroid mix.
Humidity: Medium to high.
Pet note: Toxic if chewed.
